TANZANITE
Tanzanite is one of the rarest gems on earth, and is the blue- violet variety of the mineral zoisite. Tanzanite is only found in one place on earth- Tanzania, and it was first unearthed in 1967. This is where its name comes from. These highly sought after gems come from an incredibly small mining area near the Mererani Hills. Tanzanite is said to facilitate a higher consciousness and stimulate perception and intuition. It is the gemstone for the zodiac sign Sagittarius. SPINEL
Spinel is a very underrated member of the gemstone family. It first appeared in historical records of fourteenth-century Spain, and has since been confused with many gems, including Ruby. As a matter of fact, the famous 14th century Black Prince’s Ruby in the British Imperial Crown is actually a red spinel, not a Ruby. Spinel crystals form so perfectly, that in Burma they are said to be “nat thwe” or “polished by the spirits.” Some of the most sought-after spinel was found in 2007 in Mahenge, Tanzania, and has an incredible hot pink glow. Spinel is a colorful, natural gem that has recently been inducted as an August birthstone, along with its predecessor, peridot. It is also the gem for the 22nd anniversary, and is believed to encourage great passion, devotion and longevity. Phenakite is a naturally occurring, rare and powerful mineral. Phenakite is found in tints of yellow, brown and pink, with the absolute white being the most highly sought-after. It is found in various regions, with Russia being the most coveted.
