RUBELLITE
Rubellite is a gemstone from the tourmaline family. Its name comes from the Latin word “rubellus” which means “reddish.” It is one of the most prized and expensive members of the tourmaline family because of its beauty and rarity. The rubellite in the Architect pendant shown comes from a famous find in early 2000. It is especially difficult to find stones that are “pure red,” and to find them in larger sizes. Not all material is this desired hue, or as good of color. Color is the most important determinant of value, with the most saturated and redder colors being the most valuable. Tourmaline is the birthstone for October, and marks the 8th wedding anniversary. It has a hardness of 7.0-7.5, making it very durable for everyday wear with proper care. More about Tourmaline HERE
BENiTOITE
Benitoite is an incredibly rare gemstone that was discovered in 1907 in San Benito County, California. “Benito” means “blessed.” In 1985, it was named as the official state gem. Benitoite that is properly faceted has greater fire and light dispersion than a diamond, and is one of the only naturally occurring blue gemstones. Its’ color is so fine that it was originally mistaken for sapphire. Gem quality benitoite can be worth more than diamond, sapphire, ruby or emerald, with one carat stones selling for $6,500 and more. Current market pricing of clean, top color, well-faceted stones over two carats is $10,000 per carat. Benitoite has the rarest crystal structure in the world, and science still cannot identify exactly what gives it it's spectacular color.
