MAHENGE GARNET
These radiant gems exhibit an array of colors from rich plums and pinks to the elusive and highly-sought after peach, which has become nearly impossible to find. Mahenge Garnets hail from Mahenge, Tanzania, and the material is no longer available. Each stone is hand-selected and faceted to be of the utmost standards. These beautiful, show-stopping gems are a unique and colorful addition to any jewelry collection. Garnet is the birthstone for January, and the gemstone for Aquarius and Aries. It is the gem for the 2nd, 15th and 19th anniversaries. Garnets have fair to good toughness, and a hardness of 6.5–7.5, making them very durable for everyday wear with proper care. SPINEL
Spinel is a very underrated member of the gemstone family. It first appeared in historical records of fourteenth-century Spain, and has since been confused with many gems, including Ruby. As a matter of fact, the famous 14th century Black Prince’s Ruby in the British Imperial Crown is actually a red spinel, not a Ruby. Spinel crystals form so perfectly, that in Burma they are said to be “nat thwe” or “polished by the spirits.” Some of the most sought-after spinel was found in 2007 in Mahenge, Tanzania, and has an incredible hot pink glow. Spinel is a colorful, natural gem that has recently been inducted as an August birthstone, along with its predecessor, peridot. It is also the gem for the 22nd anniversary, and is believed to encourage great passion, devotion and longevity.
